Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has vetoed a contentious crypto asset market bill, siding with industry warnings that the proposed regulations could stifle innovation and drive startups abroad. The legislation, which would have required Crypto Asset Service Providers to obtain licenses from Poland’s Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), faced fierce opposition from the digital asset community.

Critics argued the bill exceeded EU regulatory minimums, creating what President Duda’s office called a ‘legal mess’ that threatened market freedom. The veto comes as European crypto firms increasingly weigh jurisdiction shopping amid tightening regulations across the bloc.

‘This isn’t about resisting oversight—it’s about preventing regulatory overreach that could make Poland uncompetitive,’ said Rafal Leśkiewicz, the president’s press secretary, highlighting concerns about capital flight and talent drain.
